The morning of 23 May will go down in CESE’s history as a moment of celebration and recognition of its important work supporting the struggle of the underprivileged in Brazil for more than 40 years. CESE, represented by Projects and Training Coordinator Dimas Galvão, received the 2014 MDG Award trophy in Brasilia, from the hands of the President, Dilma Rousseff, herself — and took the opportunity to promote the regulatory framework of civil society organizations.

Through the Community Production and Income Programme, with support from ICCO and sponsorship from Petrobras, CESE has supported 41 production enterprises, benefiting 3635 rural workers, in the last four years.

On the ninth and tenth of this month, CESE invited representatives from national movements committed to the cause of social transformation to the CESE and Social Movements Meeting. The aim of the meeting, which takes place every 2 years, is to consult the principal social groups and their partners to provide input to the organization’s planning process.

The programme has been recognized as effectively contributing to the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and was chosen from 23 civil society organizations and 7 municipalities in this, the 5th year of the MDG Brazil Award.
