CESE elaborates its Strategic Plan towards 2022

30/01/2012

In the last week of January 2012, CESE’s team came together to elaborate the organization’s Strategic Plan. The meeting was facilitated by Domingos Armani, a social and institutional development consultant, who hold great experience in advising changes processes in social organizations, and is a long-term collaborator of CESE.

The inputs used to formulate the next years planning were given by the construction of a future vision. CESE was challenged to think its role and structure for the next 10 years, in 2022, when it will be half a century old. The goal was that, from this vision, actions planned within a short and long term will be defined based on strategic vision.

According to Armani, the scenario is very challenging and it requires innovation and reevaluation. “Brazilians’ civil society organizations are in a condition which is politically challenging; firstly, due to the effect of the systematic criminalization and the credibility loss; and secondly, the complicated financial situation. This is a moment to reflect, evaluate, diagnose, search for supporters and raise funds”.

During the two days, the team formulated scenarios and established agreements in order to guarantee CESE’s sustainability and the legitimacy of its work. The discussion was focused on the key role the organization will play in a context to reduction of funds from the international cooperation and impairment of grassroots organizations in Brazil. “CESE has full conditions to remain being a social organization with a relevant work, contributing for social justice and the defense of rights in Brazil. Therefore, we are making this 10-year-plan because CESE has great chances to remain pertinent, strong, active, contributing to strengthen another civil society actors”, affirms Armani.

From these ideas and proposals, it is being elaborated the Triennial Work Plan 2013-2015, with strategic focus on CESE’s sustainability. For Eliana Rolemberg, Executive Director, “the challenges that motivated the institution of CESE remain very much actual and it is necessary to face with courage and creativity the changes in the international cooperation scenario”. The Executive Director also affirms that “in challenging times like this, the participation and collective planning processes are even more important and for this reason, it was essential to count on with the presence of almost everyone who works at CESE”. She highlights the attendance of the Pastor Guilherme Lieven, representing the Board of Directors of CESE, “we thank him for the quality of his contribution, his constant concerns regarding the conservation of CESE’s identity and mission within the necessary changes”.
