“Give me this water.” The theme of the 2015 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity provided inspiration for the celebration of its launch in Salvador (BA), held last Saturday (16) at 6pm at the ISBA Church.  The rainy night did not prevent those committed to the week of prayer from participating in a celebration organized by the Bahia Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches  (Conselho Ecumênico Baiano de Igrejas Cristãs: CEBIC).

After reading the text from John 4: 1-30, the celebrants from the represented churches (ICAR, IECLB, IEAB, IPU and the Alliance of Baptists of Brazil) and CESE approached the font in pairs, each requesting a little water for a brother or sister from another Church, thus expressing the mutual dependence of the churches present.   The other celebrants then completed the same symbolic gesture in pairs.

The torrential rain which fell on the city of Salvador washed fresh water over a highly significant celebration.

May we have a blessed Week of Prayer.  One that bears witness to a journey that goes beyond celebrations, committing us to acts for the defence of life in response to the Gospel of Christ.“Give me this water.” The theme of the 2015 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity provided inspiration for the celebration of its launch in Salvador (BA), held last Saturday (16) at 6pm at the ISBA Church.  The rainy night did not prevent those committed to the week of prayer from participating in a celebration organized by the Bahia Ecumenical Council of Christian Churches  (Conselho Ecumênico Baiano de Igrejas Cristãs: CEBIC).
