Brasil de Fato launches podcast in partnership with CESE

In partnership with CESE, the Brasil de Fato newspaper has launched the podcast “On the Trail of the Struggles: grassroots movements opening up pathways to democracy and rights in Brazil”. The series addresses the movements’ struggles in the past and the present to demonstrate how rights that have been attained did not come about without a cost and how these disputes continue today.  The first episode addresses the struggles of indigenous peoples through the words of Chico Apurinã and Cristiane Julião Pankararu.

Brasil de Fato (BdF) is a news website and radio agency, and also publishes regional newspapers in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Paraná, Pernambuco, Ceará, Bahia, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte and Rio Grande do Sul. Launched on 25 January 2003, for over ten years the BdF was published as a national print newspaper.

By understanding that in the struggle for a just and fraternal society, the democratization of the media is fundamental, popular movements created Brasil de Fato to contribute to the debate of ideas and the analysis of facts from the point of view of the need for social changes in our country.

This is another initiative related to CESE’s 50th anniversary, applying an approach aimed at raising awareness in society about the social, cultural, economic and political contributions social movements make to the country.  The production of the “On the Trail of the Struggles” podcast is supported by the Giving for Change programme.
